The Egrets Way Project was set up by local people in 2011, known as then as the Ouse Valley Cycle Network (OVCN), to develop a safe, attractive, off-road multi-user path linking Lewes and Newhaven and the communities in the lower Ouse valley, and connecting to the South Downs Way and other routes. Travelling east on the South Downs Way from Southease Village you can access the Egrets Way at the historic Southease Swing Bridge where the path runs north to Lewes and south towards Piddinghoe. The Egrets Way is not yet complete and is being constructed in phases, as and when, landowner permissions, planning approval and funding are all in place.
